AFTERCARE
How to care for your new tattoo or piercing
If you have any questions or concerns contact your artist right away!
Never use harsh irritants on your fresh tattoo or piercing such as alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, witch hazel, bacitracin, or tea tree oil. Irritants like this can destroy healthy tissue cells and inhibit the healing process altogether! Never use any thick heavy product that contains petroleum jelly such as vaseline or aquaphor. Ointments create a damp environment that trap and harbor bacteria which can rapidly lead to an infection. Stick to lightweight un-scented lotions and antibacterial soap!
Saniderm vs Saranwrap
Saranwrap: If you were wrapped in plastic wrap keep this on for 1-2 hours max. Proceed with Tattoo Aftercare steps upon removal.

Saniderm: Your first layer of saniderm applied during your appointment stays on for 24-48 hours. (If you notice any problems such as leaking, rash, hives, severe redness or itching, or anything indicating an allergic reaction - take off before the 24-48 hours and leave off.)
Saniderm Removal: Recommended to peel down and away from you SLOW & STEADY. Best to do this under warm room temp water.
If the adhesive is not loosening you can use antibacterial soap to help lift the bandage. (Do NOT rip off fast like a bandaid, this could pull out ink and cause extra damage to the skin.)

Tattoo Aftercare
-
Always wash your hands before handling your new tattoo. Treat your new tattoo like a fresh wound - because it is!

-
Gently wash your tattoo with an antibacterial soap 2-3 times a day (or as recommended by your artist.) Avoid fragranced body soap or lotions on or around your fresh tattoo.

-
In 3-5 days, your tattoo will begin to start peeling and flaking. At this point, apply a thin layer of unscented lotion 2-3 times per day (or as needed). Wash your hands before and after applying lotion to your healing tattoo. *(Recommended Lotion Brands: Lubriderm, Eucerin, Jergins, CeraVe, Aveeno, Curel)

-
Remember to never pick, scratch, or peel your tattoo as this can pull ink out and lead to infections. Some light scabbing is normal, allow these to fall off naturally when you wash your tattoo.

Piercing Aftercare
-
Wash your new piercing gently and thoroughly in the shower with warm water. Use a fragrance-free soap like Dial Gold antibacterial soap.

-
Use a saline solution or piercing aftercare spray 2-3 times daily.

-
Avoid sleeping directly on your new piercing. Try to sleep on the opposite side of your piercing. If this is not possible, consider using a travel or piercing pillow or a clean cloth to protect your piercing from added pressure.

-
Periodically check and make sure the jewelry ball/gems are tight and in place.
-
Do NOT touch, twist, play or pull your piercing. Only touch when cleaning the piercing.

-
Do NOT touch your piercing with dirty hands. Wash your hands thoroughly before handling your new piercing to avoid the risk of infection. Avoid soaking or submerging your piercing in water (pools, lakes, hot tubs, etc.) during the healing process.

-
Do NOT remove or replace the jewelry until the piercing has fully healed. This will take anywhere from 6 weeks to 12 months depending on the location of the piercing. If you're unsure about healing times, consult with your piercer!
